Beavers
Beavers
When
We currently run one Beaver colony, which meets during term time at Scout HQ at 5:30pm for an hour on Mondays.
Why become a Beaver?
Beavers is the start of your child’s scouting adventure. It’s a very exciting time, they will be trying new things, making friends and having fun in scouting.
Although our Beaver session is only an hour long, we try to fit in as much variety as we can.
To give you a flavour here are some of the things we have done so far; Disability Awareness, first aid, junk modelling, celebrating the Chinese New Year, and Geocaching (which helped to introduce the Beavers to orienteering type skills).
As the weather improves, we tend to ventured outdoors for some Hikes. We have been to the Chattri, Butcher’s Wood, Lag Wood, a scavenger hunt around Hassocks and a Meadow Walk at Pyecoomb Golf Club, to name a few.
We have also attend County events, such as the one day Go Beavers event at Blacklands farm. Which was full of fun with games, craft making, climbing walls, bush craft, tree ropes and many other activities. We also like to have ‘sleep-overs’ with our Beavers, where they spend at least one night away from home.
We like to end the year with a really adventurous activity, we have done Paddle Surfing and Yachting at Hove Lagoon. Although we can’t guarantee to end every year with such an adventurous activity, we will certainly try our best to do so.
From all these small beginnings we hope it prepares our Beavers for moving up into Cubs, where they will continue to have more new experiences and adventures that the Young People will hopefully remember with fondness when they think back to their time within Scouting later in life.
